Why do you only provide org.uk domain names?
We provide free org.uk domain names, or free transfers, with each hosting package. It is not our primary purpose to sell domain names as standalone products. As a small establishment we aim to service only small groups, trade unions branches etc in Britain. Over time we will look to expand the service internationally. If you are based in Britain but require a different extension then contact us.
I already own a domain name, what do I need to?
If you own a domain name you can do one of two things. Firstly, you can continue to maintain it yourself whilst hosting a site with LeftSpace. If you do this you will need to point the domain name to this new package in order for it to be seen publicly. Alternatively, you can transfer your domain name to LeftSpace for free as part of either hosting package.
Who is LeftSpace?
We are individuals from a range of backgrounds organisationally.
LeftSpace has been established by us as a way of managing a disparate number of websites set up over time. It soon became obvious however that this has tapped into a need for many small groups and organisations.
Is web hosting all that LeftSpace does?
As of launch, we are focussing on the Web Hosting aspect of our work. As time, resources and volunteers grow we will be looking to provide a wide range of services from a variety of sources. These will include T-shirt design and production, badges for campaigns, facilitating internet based discussions, with online forums, podcasts etc. If you have any skills, services in these areas contact us.
You accept payments by invoice? That is unusual.
Yes. We are primarily looking to assist and work with a variety of voluntary organisations establishing a web presence. To this end we have created various add-on services which you can purchase. These include a personalised website containing your local contact information etc. As part of this, each project will have to be agreed individually. The invoice system allows the logging of your registration details etc and then allows agreement on content for your website. Once agreed, payment can then be made by PayPal or cheque.
How long does this take?
If you take hosting with LeftSpace and pay by PayPal you can have access to your site within about 24 hours. From there, installing a blank template of Joomla 1.5 ( with or without example text) is possible by you. However, for LeftSpace to modify and personalise your website will depend on discussions. We recommend contacting us prior to ordering if you require us to assist with establishing a website.
I want an a website with some Add-Ons, how long will it take?
Once an initial email exchange has taken place we estimate that we could agree a mutually satisfactory timescale in a few days or at the latest 2 weeks. No payment is required in advance from labour Movement organisations until agreemnt on content and design.
Do you want volunteers / contributors?
Absolutely yes. We are always on the look out for people to help in a range of areas. Specifically, if you have knowledge of Joomla (Joomla is the open source program we use for website design and management) and you want to help build a friendly and active centre for progressive organisations contact us.
